Is your computer is dead ?

When you turn on your PC, nothing happens. No fans run, no hard disk noise, no lights…nothing. How do you troubleshoot the problem?
1. Make sure power is getting to the PC. Plug another device into the wall socket, use another cord, check to make sure another power button on the back of the PC hasn’t been turned off. Once you are sure power is getting to the power receptacle on the back of the PC, continue with the next step.

2. Investigate the power supply. Uplug the PC and open the case. If the inside of the case is very dirty, with dust and/or pet hair, use a can of compressed air to blow it out as clean as possible. Also blow out the inside of the power supply. Are the connections between the power supply and the main circuitboard (motherboard) secure? Plug in the PC and try it again, taking care not to electrocute yourself. Notice if there an LED light lit on the motherboard. No light usually means no power is getting there.
3. Lacking the tools or the knowledge to test output from the power supply, you might want to take it in for a diagnosis at this point. Or, for a slightly risky but inexpensive fix, try replacing the power supply. If it works, you’ll have fixed the PC for about $40 in parts. If it doesn’t work, return the power supply for your $40 back and ask the store to see if they can diagnose your problem.
Also inspect the PC’s on/off switch. Is the mechanism sound and does it seem to work ok? Whet you’re looking for is pieces of broken plastic or signs of any physical damage to the switch.
If you’ve gotten this far without a result, your problem is probably with the motherboard. Time to take your PC to somebody who does this for a living. Make sure to ask for an estimate first.
